Union Endorses Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop
HTC has endorsed Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop for the election that will take place this coming November. HTC has nearly 1,000 members who reside in Jersey City, meaning that the election will have an impact on our Union in more ways than one.
“Mayor Fulop has demonstrated through-out his career in public service that he is a true champion for working families who can be counted on to stand up for organized labor and the values we share,” HTC President Rich Maroko said in February, when the Union issued its enthusiastic endorsement. “He has been a leader on so many progressive issues that are vitally important to the labor movement, including guaranteeing earned sick leave, fighting for a $15 minimum wage, and ensuring equitable development that creates economic opportunities for local communities. We are proud to be the first labor union to endorse Mayor Fulop’s campaign.”
Many members may recall that Mayor Fulop worked closely with our Union two years ago to win a ballot referendum that defended regulations for Airbnb’s operations in Jersey City, protecting thousands of jobs for working families while helping to preserve the community’s quality of life.
“Partnering with the Hotel Trades Council and other labor unions to fight for bold, progressive action to help working families has been one of the most gratifying and rewarding experiences I have had as Mayor of Jersey City,” Mayor Fulop said, when receiving our Union’s endorsement. “I thank HTC for their continued support and look forward to continuing to work with them to build an even better future for our city.”
