On April 29, 2015, 116 workers from the Marriott’s The New York Edition voted by an overwhelming 88% majority to join HTC. The Edition is located on 5 Madison Avenue directly across from Madison Square Park. Room Attendant Cissirine Beckford-Hurtado said, “The New York Edition is my first union job and I'm excited to start off with the security and representation of the union!"

The New York Edition, set to open in May, will now open as a union hotel. Tyrone Connell, a steward at Resort World Hotel and Casino, who worked on the team that organized The New York Edition said, "I'm proud to have been a part of winning union certification for the workers at the Marriott Edition. I've seen how much the union has changed my job for the better at Resorts World. I feel it's my duty as a union member to pay it forward and help other workers win the union and a great contract, with the same benefits and security that my coworkers and I enjoy."

The New York Edition by Marriott was subject to our Card Check Neutrality Agreement, which means workers were able to exercise their right to choose to be represented by our union without being subject to intimidation or fear of retaliation. Edition workers quickly took advantage of the opportunity and unhesitatingly signed union authorization cards. Now that the workers won union representation, contract negotiations will begin soon.

Stay tuned for updates on the contract negotiations and give a big welcome to the newest workers to win the representation of our union!

"This is going to be a great job for me and my coworkers,” said Room Attendant Rose Barnard. “Since we will have the protection and benefits of the union, I know that many of us will have this job for years to come.”

Room Attendant and mother Christelia David, who was a union member for over 12 years, is thrilled that she’ll be able to bring her family back to their doctor at the union health center soon. She said, “This job will be great not only for my family but for my coworkers’ families as well."
