On Saturday, May 28th, HTC members laced up their walking shoes to canvass for the primary election of a slate of candidates endorsed by Middlesex County Democrats: Council President Michele Lombardi, Council Vice President Frank Uhrin, Councilman Jim Bullard, and Council candidate Sharon Carmichael.

The Middlesex County Democrats have been allies to HTC in New Jersey, and our members were more than happy to mobilize for their endorsed candidates on the ticket from the top-down. Rain or shine—and on that Saturday it did both!—HTC can always be expected to bring enthusiasm and excitement to any canvass for a pro-labor coalition.

On Tuesday, June 7th, our mobilization efforts paid off when tens of thousands of voters flocked to the polls for the council primary elections and decided to elect Middlesex County Democrats’ slate across the board! Newcomer Sharon Carmichael’s race for the Ward 3 Township Council seat was highly-contested. Results were finally announced on Monday, June 13, revealing that Carmichael won by only 23 votes!

It’s safe to say that HTC had a real impact ensuring Carmichael's victory. Keep in mind that when you volunteer for a canvass to build your union’s power—no matter how big or small the election—every door you knock or voter you call could be making a huge difference.

HTC congratulates Middlesex County Democrats’ slate of endorsed candidates on their tremendous victories in the primary, and we look forward to their continued success in the upcoming general.
