The two teams that led the Hotel Employees Soccer League standings all season met in the title game recently. When the dust settled, it was the Hilton New York that reigned supreme, with a 2-0 victory over the Waldorf-Astoria.

Guillermo Macias and his Waldorf squad had the possession edge for much of the first half, but just couldn't get the scoring opportunities they needed. The Hilton New York played a counter-attacking style that featured Carlos Bernal controlling the middle of the field and league leading goal scorer Arturo Ching looming as a constant threat on the right wing. But it was a goal by Carlo Camargo in the 12th minute of the first half that gave the Hilton the lead.

The match opened up more in the second half, with both teams getting more shots on goal. In the 50th minute, the Waldorf's Claudio Calle broke free on the left side, cut back and sent a looping shot that forced Hilton New York goalkeeper Sidney Albritton to make a leaping save. The Hilton's Sean Hogan also came close to scoring on a rocket shot that hit the left post. The only other goal in the match came with 10 minutes left, when a Ramon Arumburu shot found the back of the net to seal the 2-0 win for the Hilton.

The win by the Hilton New York and Coach George Garay was their second Hotel Employees Soccer League Championship in the last three years, having reached the finals in in each of those seasons.

Congratulations to the Hilton New York, the Waldorf-Astoria and all the other teams and players for providing such an exciting season of soccer.
