Clarion Empire by Meadowlands Workers Unanimously Ratify First HTC Contract

Jubilant workers at the Clarion Empire Hotel by Meadowlands in Secaucus, New Jersey unanimously ratified their first HTC Union contract on Thursday, November 21st.  It is by far the best contract ever won for the workers at the Clarion, who were previously represented by the (now defunct) Local 96 until 2010.  The new contract doubles yearly wage increases for workers, substantially expands their rights and protections, and guarantees free health care for the life of the contract.  The victory came after a protracted, two-year legal battle with the Hotel.  In the face of mounting legal bills incurred by defending against Union-initiated proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board, Department of Labor, arbitration, and Federal Court, and with the prospect of losing super bowl revenue as a result of a labor dispute, Clarion management capitulated and agreed to a fair contract. Workers at the Clarion remained strong and united throughout the fight, and now urge other union members who are fighting for their contracts to do the same.  As Clarion Room Attendant, Tommie Wilson, stated: “My advice to all my Union brother and sisters is to stay strong and united behind the Union. If you do, you will get the contract you deserve no matter what dirty tricks management plays or how they try to intimidate you.” The Union sincerely congratulates all the workers at the Clarion Empire Hotel on this victory.
