Promotions are always good news, especially if they come with a promise of better wages or other enticements. But as the Union has seen many times in the past, some members find that their new jobs and responsibilities aren’t what they were expecting, leading them to want to return to their original jobs. It is then that they discover that the person who replaced them has rights, too — rights that are protected by the contract.

If you are ever offered a job promotion, it surely pays to first know the facts. It is strongly advised that you talk it over with your business agent before making a decision. This, in turn, can either make the new job better or protect you from making a move you may later regret.
