Are You Interested in Becoming A Citizen?

“It is good for the nation for people to join it in the fullest way they can,”
-Ur M. Jaddou, the Director of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services

Becoming an American citizen affords people increased rights and privileges including the right to vote, become an elected official, keep your residency, receive federal scholarships, and obtain government benefits. The process of naturalization to become a US citizen can feel long and complicated, but your Union is offering support. The Union is partnering with the NYC Central Labor Council (NYC CLC) to help eligible permanent residents in navigating the naturalization process.

On Thursday, August 10th, the NYC CLC and the Union will host a morning (10 am) and afternoon (4 pm) information session for members interested in applying for naturalization. In the information session a senior attorney with the NYC CLC will share a presentation on eligibility requirements. Members who are in a position to move forward will receive one on one coaching to complete the naturalization application. In September there will be an event to do a final review of the application. Following the September event, the Union will offer free test preparation classes.
