Aching Dogs Theater: Theater Industry Likes What It Saw

December 16, 2013 10:46 AM

They are still talking about the last production staged by Aching Dogs Theater, the Hotel Trades Council’s program for members who are actors, writers and directors. The purpose of the program is to give these members of our Union a chance to meet with their peers, rehearse scenes, try out new material and, once or twice a year, present their work on stage before a live audience.

One of the other purposes of the program is to have professionals from the theatre industry come out and see the show. This, in turn, can lead to other work in the theater — or film and TV work — for the members of our Union and Aching Dogs. And that, of course, is another goal of the program. The most recent live performance, “New York Nuts 8,” took place three weeks ago, and plenty of the theatre industry turned out for the show. We are happy to publish some of their comments and reviews below. These remarks are a real tribute to the success of the program! Hotel Trades Council members who would like to join Aching Dogs Theater can call Pam Scott at 646-220-4202. All members are welcome!

Philip Cioffari, Playwright/Director/Filmmaker:
“Pam Scott has delivered yet another impressive and exciting evening of one-acts, featuring wonderful and committed actors, humorous and inventive playwriting, as well as polished directing and stagecraft. The presentation ran smoothly from start to finish. I enjoyed myself thoroughly. I’ve never been disappointed with one of her productions, and look forward to seeing more of the NY Nuts.”

Sonny Coyne (Commercial Casting), Red Hill Productions:
“This was the best Pam (Scott) ever did. It was a great show.”

Stephan Diacrussi, American Thymele Theatre:
“It’s always a pleasure. There was some very nice work. Most of the short plays were very well put together and executed.”

Van Dirk Fisher, Riant Theatre:
“I loved the show. Thank you so much for the industry package with the actors’ photos. That will come in handy as the directors for the upcoming Strawberry One Act Festival are casting their shows.”
Sander Gusinow, NBC Casting:
“New York Nuts was a fun night with plenty of diversity.”

Anthony Jones, Negro Ensemble Company:
“As so many times before New York Nuts has brought together a wonderful group with excellent materials.”

Marshall Mays, Artistic Director, Kaleidoscope Theatre Company:
“Generally was very impressed with the quality of the acting, writing and directing and would definitely be interested in catching this next year too.”

Caitlin Monahan, J. Mitchell Management:
“I had a good time at NY Nuts lastnight. Definitely a mix of ages, ethnicities, experience, etc.”

Michael Roderick, Small Pond Entertainment:
“The group did a very nice job as they always do. The scenes this time were very inventive and the writing complemented the acting and acting styles really well. It’s been good to see the growth and maturity in a number of Pam’s actors over the years. She did solid work keeping everything moving and I enjoyed the performance.”

Juel Wiese, Managing Director, Playwrights Actors Contemporary Theatre:
“Always a fun show. I felt the material was exceptionally good this time.”

Art Feinglass, Mostly Murder (Murder Mysteries as Corporate Events):
“Overall I thought it was a very impressive production. The audience was packed. The scenes were well written and several cuts above the average for showcases. Original works that were powerful and funny and imaginative. There was a strong positive energy in the room and the actors seemed to be drawing on that throughout their performances. All in all, a very enjoyable production.”
