The New York State Attorney General has subpoenaed hotel builder Sam Chang in connection with the lawsuit it has filed against contractor Michael T. Mahoney and EMC Contracting, Mahoney's company. The Attorney General is suing Mahoney and his company, alleging violations of the state's wage and hour laws and laws prohibiting discrimination. Mahoney is accused of paying workers on a three-tiered wage rate based on race, of requiring laborers to work 70 or more hours per week, and of denying black and Latino workers of supervisory positions. Chang used EMC Contracting to build at least six of his hotels and has been ordered to testify November 11 as to his relationship with EMC Contracting.
