Budget hotel drops brand

The Hotel @ Times Square, formerly a Super 8 Motel, has dropped its franchise flag and entered the smaller market of independent budget hotels. Apple Core Hotel Group, which owns the property, plans to convert its other properties into independent hotels, as well. According to Apple Core president Vijay Dandapani, dropping the franchise not only allows for more creativity in design, but also results in saving more than $700,000 in flag fees.
