Auctioning off Tavern on the Green

December 10, 2009 7:00 PM

The auctioning off of Tavern on the Green's wares, including chandeliers, murals, animal sculptures, and rare wood paneling, is set to begin January 13. The LeRoy family's operating lease on the restaurant expires at the end of this year, and in 2010 Dean Poll, operator of the Central Park Boathouse restaurant, will take over operations. Funds collected from the sold items are expected to help pay off the restaurant's more than 450 creditors, among whom are the nearly 400 NY Hotel Trades Council members. While the workers do not yet have a contract with Poll, Kay LeRoy called the workers "the heart of Tavern."
