Since February, the Pierre Hotel has hosted a dance night, called "Rumor," that has become a huge hit. This new event, featuring drinking, dancing and a live DJ, stands in sharp contrast to the hotel's historically reserved and conservative image.

Union’s theater group to present its 20th production

The Hotel Trades Council's actors group, Aching Dogs Theater, is about to present its next production. The group will present New York Nuts 3 in two weeks, and it will feature a host of hotel and restaurant workers who are also fine writers, directors and actors.

Bernard Michel, Thompson Central Park

Our Union is saddened to announce the passing of Bernard Michel, a houseman at the Thompson Central Park for 39 years.

A devoted family man who loved celebrating the holidays with his family, Bernard is remembered for his generous spirit and kindness to those around him. He hosted family gatherings every summer and was always the life of the party. Bernard was an avid gardener and dedicated hours in the spring and summer to making his garden thrive.

Feed the front lines: sLICe Astoria and DJ Camilo donate pizza to Queens Health Center staff

Employees at the Queens Health Center were surprised on May 7 by a big delivery. 25 pizzas rolled through the doors, courtesy of Queens native and radio host on Hot 97, DJ Camilo and Danny from sLICe Astoria. DJ Camilo and Danny dropped by the Health Center to share their appreciation for healthcare workers during the pandemic, and donated the pizzas as part of the #feedthefrontlines campaign.

HTC invites DNC to choose Brooklyn!

The Democratic National Committee “DNC” announced in November that they will host the 2016 Democratic National Convention in either Brooklyn, Philadelphia, or Columbus. Delegates to the 2016 Democratic National Convention will select the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee. HTC President Peter Ward urged the DNC to chose New York City for the 2016 Democratic National Convention. “New York City’s unionized hotel industry embodies the Party’s ideals of shared prosperity and a vibrant middle class,” Ward commented.

Upcoming drive-thru food pantry in Albany

For members in the Capital Area, the Capital District American Labor Federation and the Regional Food Bank of NY are partnering to host a drive-thru Food Pantry on Friday June 12, from 10am-12pm. It will take place at the Albany Labor Temple, at 890 Third Street in Albany. Working people have been hit hard by the Coronavirus and members in need are encouraged to stop by for assistance.

Women’s Health Week Is at the Health Centers October 24-28

The Union's Health and Dental Centers will be hosting Women's Health Week from Monday, October 24, through Friday, October 28. The theme of the event is “Relax your mind and strengthen your body,” and it is hoped that a large number of members will take advantage of the many benefits it will offer, just as many members did for the recent Men’s Health Week.
