David Dioquino, Grand Hyatt

The Union is sad to announce the passing of our brother, David Dioquino, who worked as a steward at the Grand Hyatt for 36 years.

“He was just such a wonderful man,” recalled his son, Arsenio. “Even though he is no longer with us, it is so comforting to know how deeply he impacted the lives of everyone who knew him.” Arsenio also noted that his father believed in the Union. “The Union helped him at the Grand Hyatt several times, and he was proud of being a Union member.”

Members Travel to Albany to Lobby Legislators

Almost 200 members journeyed to Albany on March 10, as part of the Share Better coalition, to lobby legislators. The members—and others—split into groups and met with more than 50 members of the New York State Assembly and Senate to express concerns about illegal hotels, illegal apartment rentals and Airbnb, the company whose web service helps enables these violations of the law.

HTC Members Support Shuttle Bus Drivers in Newark

On Friday, January 20th, 65 HTC members turned out to a rally in Newark, NJ, in support of our brothers and sisters at Local 108, RWDSU. At the time, Local 108 was in a contract fight with Gateway, a shuttle bus company. The company’s shuttle bus drivers earn low wages and had not seen a wage increase in five years.

HTC supports 32BJ at rally for fair contract

On April 2nd, nearly 600 HTC members marched up Park Avenue with several other unions to show solidarity with 32BJ and their demand for a fair contract. The property service union’s contract expires on April 20th. With 32BJ's 70,000 NYC members facing increasing costs of living, the new contract would ensure that these union members will continue to provide for their families.
