Union negotiates casino re-opening agreement

On September 3rd, 2020, New York Governor Cuomo announced that casinos in the state will be allowed to reopen at 25% capacity beginning Wednesday, September 9th.

In the weeks leading up, HTC President Rich Maroko and the Union’s staff have been in negotiations with the casinos to make sure that those workers who are recalled have adequate safety protections and equipment. We are pleased to announce that we have reached agreements with Resorts World NYC, Resorts World Catskills, Rivers Casino, Empire City Casino, del Lago Resort & Casino, and Saratoga Casino Hotel. These casinos have agreed to sign the Union’s Coronavirus Safety Protocols negotiated with the Hotel Association of New York City in March and June of this year, and to a number of casino-specific safety provisions. Read more...

Cuomo and Casino Owner Credit HTC for Rivers Casino Opening

At the press conference, Rivers Casino owner Neil Bluhm spoke on HTC President Peter Ward’s aid in passing legislation for upstate casinos. "Without Peter’s great work we wouldn’t be here. He was very instrumental in getting the legislation enacted, welcomed us and we look forward to working with you, Peter, in the future.”

Bernardo Paredes, Rivers Casino & Resort

It is with great sadness that the family of Bernardo (“Benny” aka “Nardo”) Paredes announces his passing on May 31, 2020, at his home in Albany, NY at the age of 47 due to a sudden heart attack. “Benny”, as he was most affectionately known, was raised in a loving home, the son of Anita Paredes and father Pedro Antonio Collado Diaz, who preceded him in Heaven. Benny is survived by his dearest sibling, Jacqueline Paredes, and his cherished children, Bernardo Paredes, Jr., Kiara Paredes and Abrianna Sagodha Paredes whom he loved with all his heart.

Indraine Sanicharan, Resorts World Casino NYC

Our Union is sad to announce the passing of Indraine Sanicharan, who was a Public Area Cleaner at the Resorts World Casino NYC for ten years.

Indraine’s husband Bisambar expressed how much he misses her and shared that she was “kind and loving to everybody, and her family and everyone at the casino loves and misses her very much.”

Del Lago Casino Workers Win Contract

HTC has won a contract for the nearly 1,000 union-represented employees at del Lago Resort and Casino in Waterloo, NY. The casino signed onto the Greater Regional Industry Wide Agreement, or GRIWA, which is the HTC contract for the region. At the ratification, union representatives, including, lawyers, business agents and organizers, met with workers to review the contract in detail, in order to allow employees to cast their vote in an informed and democratic manner.       

Governor designates operator for Aqueduct racetrack casino

Governor David A. Paterson announced on January 29, 2010, that he has selected Aqueduct Entertainment Group to operate the Aqueduct Racetrack casino.

Rivers Casino Workers Ratify Their First Contract

An excellent new first contract has been successfully negotiated by our union for the 800 employees of the Rivers Resort and Casino in Schenectady, New York. It was ratified by the workers with a resounding 98% majority on October 17th and 18th. The casino/resort signed on to HTC’s Greater Regional Industry Wide Agreement (the "GRIWA"), which is our union’s recently established landmark master contract for upstate New York, Northern New Jersey and the suburbs of New York City.

1,200 Del Lago Casino workers organize with HTC!

On February 15th, HTC was certified as the collective bargaining representative of 1,200 bargaining unit employees at the new del Lago Resort and Casino in the Finger Lakes Region. The del Lago is the second major casino in New York State to be organized by our union.
