On Monday, November 8th, our Union joined New York State Governor Kathy Hochul to announce a $450 million initiative to drive tourism back to New York. This initiative includes a one-time $2,750 benefit for eligible tourism workers as well as incentives for hotels to recall more laid-off employees.

The New York State Department of Labor is overseeing the distribution of the $2,750 checks and on Wednesday, November 24th, notified thousands of hotel workers about the program by text and email.

If you believe you are eligible for the $2,750 benefit but were not contacted by the Department of Labor, we can help. Please complete this survey. Our Union will provide the information you provide to the DOL and ask the agency to investigate why you were not contacted.

An Important Note on Eligibility: Under New York State’s guidelines, in order to be eligible for the one-time $2,750 benefit from the Tourism Worker Recovery Fund, you must:

  1.
Work in the tourism sector (this includes only hotels - not casinos or stand-alone restaurants)
  2. Have lost your benefits when extended federal unemployment benefits expired on September 5, 2021 (not before or after)
  3. Be unemployed and currently looking for work or employed, but prior to November 8, 2021, you were making less than 75% of what you were earning before the pandemic.
