Unite Here rejoined the AFL-CIO "House of Labor" September 17 at the AFL-CIO's national convention. The union represents 265,000 workers predominantly in the hospitality, gaming, and garment industries, including many members of the NY Hotel Trades Council. Unite Here left the AFL-CIO in 2005 and joined the Change to Win labor federation, but has decided to rejoin the 11.5 million member AFL-CIO.

According to Unite Here President John Wilhelm, "Labor was unified in the 2008 campaign [to elect President Barack Obama], regardless of affiliation. We should build on those beginnings, we hope the labor movement continues to move towards total unity."
