Litigation over TOG name continues

New York City, the plaintiff in the lawsuit challenging the LeRoy family's claim to ownership of the Tavern on the Green name, is seeking to have the case moved to the United States District Court. The case is currently pending in bankruptcy court, and the district court has not yet decided whether or not it will hear the case.

The LeRoy family currently runs the restaurant and claims to own the trademark to the name "Tavern on the Green." When their lease expires at the end of this year, Boathouse Restaurant operator Dean Poll will take over operations of Tavern. However, if the city fails to win the lawsuit, Poll will not be able to operate the restaurant under the name "Tavern on the Green." As an alternative, Poll has filed "Tavern in the Park" as the name under which he would run the restaurant.

Negotiations as to when the current operators will vacate reportedly remain ongoing.
