Coalition including HTC fights for living wage jobs at Kingsbridge Armory

A coalition of labor, religious, and local groups are fighting to insure that the Kingsbridge Armory project in the Bronx is "worker friendly." They are seeking an agreement beneficial to the community that would include commitments for payment of living wages, local hiring, and noninterference with union organizing efforts.

Six of the city's most powerful unions, including the NY Hotel Trades Council, have joined the coalition and are urging City Council members to demand that the developer, Related Companies, commit to living-wage retail jobs with salaries of at least $10 per hour and medical and retirement benefits.

The City Planning Commission approved the development project by an 8-4 vote, and it will next be reviewed and voted upon by the City Council.
