John Mensah, St. Regis

We are saddened by the passing of John Mensah, an Engineer at the St. Regis Hotel. John is remembered as a great husband, father, and grandfather.

John immigrated to New York City from Ghana and worked at the St. Regis since the hotel re-opened in 1991. His coworkers remember him as a helpful and skilled worker, and a proud union member.

Delali Bansa, St. Regis

The Union is saddened to announce that Delali Bansa, an overnight steward at the St. Regis Hotel since 1991, has passed away.

Delali was a pastor at the Living Gospel Ministry Church in the Highbridge section of the Bronx for over two decades. His coworker of nearly 30 years, Teddy Osei Bonsu, remembers Delali as a very kind man and devout Christian. “Delali was a strong, faithful man and a good friend. He gave many of us comfort and support on the job. Whenever one of our coworkers was going through something difficult, Delali would take us aside and pray for us.”

Georgia Mitilineos, St. Regis

Our Union mourns the passing of Georgia Mitilineos, who was a Public Area Attendant at the St. Regis for 26 years.

Her husband George described her as “one of the best, we were very close, like one person.” Georgia and George were together 40 years and had one son and one daughter. George recalled how Georgia loved to travel, particularly to Greece to visit her family and favorite beaches.

Union Wins $159,000 Back Pay at St. Regis

St. Regis Room Attendants received $159,000 in back pay this month, after the Union claimed that management had violated the contract regarding layoffs and recalls.

$173,000 in back pay for St. Regis butlers

Twenty-two butlers in the housekeeping department at the St. Regis recently received sizable checks from their hotel in settlement of a grievance the union filed on their behalf. On the same day the arbitration hearing before the Impartial Chairperson was to begin, the hotel entered into the voluntary settlement agreement with the union.

There’s lots of back pay for employees at the St. Regis in the photos seen here. In the top photo are some of the room attendants who recently received a total of $40,407. This amount was in addition to the $159,000 in back pay received by St. Regis room attendants that was reported in the August 26 edition of Hotel Voice.
