Workers Vote for HTC at The Dream Downtown

On July 9, 2015, the Hotel Trades Council was certified by the Office of the Impartial Chairperson as the bargaining representative of workers at the Dream Downtown. 77% of workers voted in favor of the union by signing union cards. 



After being certified, room attendant Tina Liu commented “I am very excited to join the union”. Meriam Dejesus, a room attendant, went so far as to say that “joining the union is the best thing that ever happened to me”. Workers listed several reasons why they were happy to become represented by HTC, such as the health insurance, pension, and job security that HTC has been able to negotiate in previous contracts.

The Hotel Trades Council was certified as the bargaining representative of the workers at the Dream Downtown after a huge majority of workers signed union cards. Workers organized under a card-check neutrality agreement, which allowed workers to organize quickly and without fear of intimidation or retaliation by management. 


This is a major achievement for the workers at the Dream Downtown. Now that the Dream Downtown is unionized, HTC will begin negotiating a contract for workers at the hotel. Stay tuned for updates on the negotiations.
