Bill de Blasio elected mayor by landslide margin

November 6, 2013

On November 5th 2013, New Yorkers showed that they are ready for progressive change. By a landslide margin of 49%, they voted to make Bill de Blasio our city’s next Mayor. This resounding victory sent a message that New Yorkers want change, giving de Blasio a clear mandate to tackle the affordable housing crisis, education, and to repair the relationship between New Yorkers and the City's Police Force.

From poll opening to closing, hundreds of Hotel Trades Council members were out in force to get out the vote.

One of our union’s most dedicated volunteers, Doren James, a Room Attendant at the Iroquois hotel, knocked on doors after work with her daughter. Later, when asked why she is excited about a de Blasio victory, she replied, “He stands for the middle class in our city. I know that he will fight to preserve good union jobs.”

Our union looks forward to working with the new Mayor to enact an agenda that puts the working people of our city first.
