Tavern talks resume

Can Tavern on the Green be resurrected in our lifetime? Tuesday, for the second day, the designated new operator of the landmark restaurant in Central Park, Dean J. Poll, conducted negotiations with the Hotel and Motel Trades Council, which represents some 400 employees who have been looking for work since the restaurant shuttered early on Jan. 1.

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, whose representatives have been present at intermittent negotiations for months, has imposed a gag order on the opponents. "The city has asked us not to comment about negotiations and we're going to respect that," said John Turchiano, a spokesman for the union. Barry B. LePatner, a lawyer for Mr. Poll, did not return calls.
