The world-famous restaurant Tavern on the Green served its last meals under the LeRoy management to guests on New Year's Eve. Even amidst the revelry, both guests and the union members who served them recognized the poignance of the occasion. NY Hotel Trades Council member Jesus Montesanto, a server at Tavern who has worked there for four decades, voiced the feelings of the more than 400 close-knit union staff when he said it "is a family, and we hope we can keep our family together." Dean Poll, in line to be the restaurant's next operator, has not yet been able to sign a contract with the city. According to the New York Times, "a key to that accord is a settlement with the powerful Hotel Trades Council, the union that represents some 400 Tavern employees."
