Sam Chang’s new Comfort Inn opens in Staten Island

NYHTC - May 6, 2010 Share/Save/Bookmark

A 93-room Comfort Inn, developed by "budget hotel king" Sam Chang, opened for business on April 29. Located in Travis, near the Fresh Kills landfill, it is the first of three new budget hotels opening this year in Staten Island. A Holiday Inn Express and a Best Western are still planned to open later this year, together adding around 300 new rooms to the borough.

The rising number of these new, small, non-union hotels poses a growing threat to the union's density in New York City, which will undoubtedly make the union's fight for strong contracts more difficult in the future.
