Sam Chang:  non-stop builder of NYC hotels

No one has built more hotels in New York City than Sam Chang who, to date, has built 37 and has an additional 22 in the works. Chang aims his hotels at budget-conscious travelers and builds on less expensive parcels of land in districts zoned for manufacturing. Contributing more than 4,000 new rooms to the market since 1997, his hotels have presented an increasing challenge to the maintenance of the union's high density, which is a factor in the union's ability to win ever stronger contracts for its members.
