New operator of Tavern threatens two-year closing

Dean J. Poll, the future operator of Tavern on the Green, claims he may have to close the restaurant for two years if he cannot take it over on January 1, 2010, and begin renovations. The current operator, Tavern on the Green Limited Partnership, has asked the federal bankruptcy court to permit it to stay through March 2010. The current operator claims it will have to lay off some 400 employees during the lucrative holiday season if the court does not grant the extension.
