Helmsley Carlton House hits auction block

The Helmsley Carlton House, an apartment-hotel that specializes in long-term rentals, is on the block in what will be the first test this year of what prime Manhattan real estate fetches amid the still challenging market. The Helmsley estate is selling the 160-unit building on Madison Avenue, between East 61st and East 62nd streets, in an auction that sources say has already attracted significant interest from over 100 buyers, especially operators of residential properties. The property features two stories of retail space and a private driveway.
