City to seek a new operator for Tavern on the Green

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg has envisioned an unexpected, decidedly humble but likely temporary destiny for the shuttered, bankrupt, once-glittering Tavern on the Green restaurant: a Central Park snack bar, center for visitors and a retail facility. The mayor's announcement followed the collapse on Thursday of six months of negotiations between the restaurateur who was expected to become Tavern's operator, and the labor union that represents its 400 former employees.
