Baccarat crystal, nostalgia fill Tavern on the Green’s auction

Mirrors and Christmas ornaments reflected the light of Tiffany-glass chandeliers as Frank Sinatra filled the air at Tavern on the Green yesterday. The occasion was hardly festive, as the landmark restaurant in Manhattan's Central Park opened its doors for a public preview of thousands of items, from glassware to weathervanes, it will auction off next week. The restaurant filed for bankruptcy protection in September 2009, after the losing its lease on the city-owned site to a higher bidder, restaurateur Dean Poll, who runs the park's Boathouse Restaurant.
