The Hotel Trades Council, AFL-CIO, is the union for hotel and gaming workers in New York and Northern New Jersey. The union is currently seeking applications for the following position within its Operations Department: Operations & Mac IT Support Assistant. The operations team works closely with the union’s organizing department as well as departments throughout the organization on program/project management, information management and analysis, logistics, research, office management, and human resources.

Successful candidates for Operations & Mac IT Support Assistant will have a cooperative attitude and strong aptitude for learning quickly, with the ability to identify what they need to know and take the initiative to seek out relevant resources. They will have the ability to grow in this role and take on increased responsibility. They will think creatively to solve problems efficiently, be flexible and organized, and pay thorough attention to details. They should be able to work under pressure, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and communicate effectively with staff, volunteers and members.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Assist with the coordination of multiple ongoing projects and the daily operations of the Organizing department
  • Plan & execute logistics for campaigns, events and picket lines
  • Support help-desk workflow and maintain responsive communication with users
  • Assist with troubleshooting workstations, including: software installs, printer troubleshooting and resolving user issues
  • Assist with regular maintenance tasks on servers and workstations
  • Assist in updating and maintaining documentation, both physical & digital, including: asset inventory, software licenses, vendor information, warranties, configurations, and serial numbers
  • Configure and deploy user computers & phones
  • Maintain accurate data in complex databases
  • Writing and managing website content
  • Photography, and photo archive management & maintenance
  • Layout & design for printed materials

Additional consideration given for:

  • Commitment to social justice
  • Multilingual (especially Spanish or Chinese)
  • Experience using FileMaker Pro 6-12
  • Familiarity with PHP or experience in web development
  • Knowledge of Windows XP and 7 desktop support

Salary and Benefits

Starting salary will be $37,000 - $45,000, depending on experience.
